The Slant System™ is a structured, multimodal, Orton-Gillingham-based approach that teaches reading and spelling in a clear, sequential way. It progresses through seven cumulative stages, beginning with foundational short vowel sounds and closed syllables and gradually advancing to more complex patterns, including vowel teams, morphology, and multisyllabic words.
Every lesson follows a consistent, explicit routine that includes phonemic awareness, a three-part drill for building automaticity, blending practice, and spelling dictation. All of this is delivered through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways.
Because the program is diagnostic and prescriptive, I begin with a thorough assessment so that instruction is always tailored to your child’s specific needs and pace. This systematic method has proven highly effective for children with dyslexia and other reading difficulties, helping them build the strong foundations needed for fluent, confident reading.
